EDMOND, Okla. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team placed 13th at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational this week (March 4-5) at KickingBird Golf Course, a par-70, 5,821-yard layout. Morgan Brasser finished in a tie for fifth at 8-over through two rounds, tied for the best performance by an MIAA athlete in the field.
Brasser began the tournament with a 3-over 72 in the first round before rounding out the week with a 6-over 76 for a two-round total of 148. The senior finished the week with six birdies, second-most in the field. Brasser now has a season stroke average of 75.25, a total that would be the best single-season stroke average in program history. This was her fourth top-five finish of the season and the 14th of her career.
Hayden York turned in rounds of 86 and 84 to finish in a tie for 58th. Shauna Lee fired rounds of 89 and 87 to finish in solo 68th place, with Ella Neuhauser posting scores of 91 and 88 to finish 73rd.
Southwestern Oklahoma State won the team title at 32-over, placing three Bulldogs in the top four. Oklahoma Christian’s Sofia Benavides was the individual medalist with a two-round score of 2-over 142 (69-73).
Fort Hays State will return to action after spring break when the Tigers travel to Bolivar, Mo. for the Midwest Spring Invitational March 18-19.
