CABOT, Ark. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team opened its spring schedule this week (Feb. 26-27) at the Natural State Classic. Senior Morgan Brasser finished in a tie for fourth out of 67 competitors, turning in a cumulative score of 3-over par after two rounds at Cypress Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 5,915-yard layout.
Brasser opened the tournament with an even-par 72, her school-record 17th career round at or under par. The Andale, Kan. native carded three birdies and three bogeys across the first 18 holes, sitting in a tie for fourth after day one. She maintained that position after a 3-over 75 in round two, featuring three more birdies. Brasser’s six birdies on the week were just one fewer than the most recorded by any individual in the field.
Hayden York finished 64th, firing rounds of 85 and 94. Shauna Lee was tied for 65th after rounds of 89 and 91, while Ella Neuhauser placed 67th with rounds of 93 and 92.
The Tigers placed 11th as a team with a two-round total of 691 (339-352).
Central Missouri won the team title at 6-over 582, while UCM’s Hayley Jones finished the week at 1-under 143 (72-71) to take home the individual crown.
Fort Hays State will continue the spring season next week when the Tigers travel to Edmond, Okla. to compete at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational at the recently-renovated KickingBird Golf Club March 4-5.
