We have fun events like this to try to get everyone in here for different interest and maybe to find something new that they might be interested in, or to view the library in a different way,” Instruction and Outreach Librarian Cyndi Landis said. Attendees put together book flowers from book page ‘petals.’ The final product for the book flowers activity. A selection of books were wrapped in paper to conceal the covers for the ‘Blind Date with a Book.’ Attendees select a book based only on its first line and a short description provided. Attendees work on their book flowers and other activities like coloring pages and crossword puzzles. MakerSpace provided materials for LED valentines. The MakerSpace area is one of the many resources at the library, in addition to study spaces and books. “We have so many different resources available to students,” Landis said. “Things like this help draw them in and help them learn about what’s available to them for free with their Tiger card.” The Writing Center provided materials to create blackout poetry. “We wanted a variety of spaces that help students understand and use the library in different ways, all around that kind of idea of creation and innovation,” Landis said. Forsyth Library partnered with the Institute for New Media Studies for a virtual reality tour of Paris – the city of love. Jimmy Dee and the Fabulous Destinations performed songs from artists like Ritchie Valens, Paul Anka and The Beatles. Jimmy Dee serenades the attendees throughout the library.
