The Fort Hays State indoor track and field teams showcased their talent at a couple meets Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Ninth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic and the Ichabod Invitational. The team was able to rack up three provisional marks again today, totaling six on the weekend between all three indoor meets.
At the Ichabod Invitational, standout performances were evident across multiple events. In the Men’s 60m Prelims, Eddie McVay and Toby Wahlmeier showcased their speed, with McVay finishing 22nd and just a third of a second away from his personal best. Wahlmeier, who achieved a personal best in the qualifying dash yesterday (Feb.9) finished close behind in 27th place. In the women’s 60m hurdles prelims, Hadley Williamsdemonstrated her agility, finishing 26th overall. Williams also competed in the women’s 200m, showing versatility in her skills. Impressive displays of speed were also seen in the men’s 200m, where Toby Wahlmeier finished 23rd, followed by Kenny Fritsch in 37th place.
Distance runners from FHSU exhibited endurance and determination in their respective events. Abbye Hudsonfinished 26th in the women’s 1 mile, while Daniel Bechle represented the men’s team, finishing 38th. Hudson also competed in the women’s 3000m, securing an impressive 16th place.
In the field events, Annabeth Baalmann soared to victory in the Women’s Pole Vault Invite, claiming the top spot with a height of 12-3.50, and marking a NCAA Division II provisional mark. Patrisha Doll and Liberty Booker showcased their strength in the women’s weight throw, finishing ninth and 12th. Jayme Hagermandisplayed her prowess in the women’s long jump, securing ninth place overall. The men’s pole vault proved to be a competitive event for FHSU, with Jacob Clark achieving a remarkable second place finish and earning a NCAA Division II provisional mark. Ben Pahlsand Carter Jones also delivered commendable performances, finishing sixth and 11th, respectively. In the men’s long jump, Keamonie Archie leaped to fifth place, demonstrating exceptional athleticism, and earning a NCAA Division II provisional mark. Dean Clark, Chason VanDerWege, Carter Cellmer, and Jace Wentling also contributed solid performances in the event.
At the Gorilla Classic, FHSU athletes continued to shine. Hayden Albright impressed in the men’s 60m prelims, securing 18th place. Tori Poe and Reba Madershowcased their speed in the women’s 60m prelims, finishing 22nd and 25th. In the running events, Hayden Albright and Avrey Albright demonstrated their prowess in the men’s 400m, finishing 9th and 17th while Reba Mader and Taylor Savolt represented the women’s team in the 400m, finishing 12th and 16th. In the men’s 800m, Aaron Mangan and Kaden Wren displayed strong performances, finishing 16th and 20th, almost punching a provisional mark. Garant Bradley showed out to the men’s 3000m run, where he finished seventh, leading the Tigers in that specific event.
Fort Hays State University’s track and field team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination at both the Ichabod Invitational and the Gorilla Classic, with several athletes achieving NCAA Division II provisional marks and securing top-10 finishes. Track & Field continue their season in Kearney, Neb. at the Loper Tune-Up (Feb. 16) as well as the Steve Miller Invitational (Feb. 16) in Manhattan, Kan. These meets will mark the end of the indoor season as MIAA Championships are set for Feb. 23-25 in Topeka, Kan.
