On Thursday, the women’s and men’s FHSU Basketball teams are set to play Washburn. While the Tigers are gearing up to beat the Ichabods, Career Services and Student Engagement will be gearing Fort Hays’ students up for success.

In an effort to boost student attendance at WBB and MBB home games at Gross Memorial Coliseum, Career Services and the Student Engagement offices will be handing out concession vouchers for the first 300 students in attendance for pizza, popcorn, and pop on Thursday. Additionally, they will have t-shirts and prize giveaways and host half-time games with prizes for the winners.

Student Engagement Specialist Tim Post speaks on the overall purpose of this event and what Student Engagement aims to accomplish through the activity.

“We aim to engage students and foster a better community at FHSU while also supporting Tiger athletics and fellow students who are athletes,” he said. “We will also have several departments and resources from around campus promoting what they offer to students. Our goal for the event is to help promote resources available to students while also having a fun night.”

Post said this is not a new event for FHSU’s Student Engagement team.

“We have held the Student Success Basketball Spirit Night, or some form of it, every spring semester for the past couple of years during basketball season,” he said. “It’s a very popular event among students so we plan to continue holding this every spring.”

Attendees can expect a night filled with fun, information, basketball, and a slew of FHSU-themed prizes throughout the evening. Post gives an additional sneak peek into the halftime promotions of the night.

“During halftime, there will be a tug of war game as well as a halfcourt shooting contest with a $1,000 prize,” he said.

Post believes this activity and other events like these, really help students at the university connect with each other and form lasting bonds and friendships.

“With events like these, we can provide education, social, and inclusive experiences for students and empower them to become champions for student success,” Post said.

Student Engagement will also celebrate Kansas Day on Monday.

“We’re really looking forward to our Kansas Day celebration,” Post said. “We will be celebrating Kansas’s birthday with cupcakes, and we will have a Kansas-themed jeopardy set up with chances to win prizes.”

Kansas Day will be celebrated from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
