TOPEKA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team recorded a pair of NCAA Division II qualifying marks and took home three first-place finishes Saturday (Dec. 2) in Topeka, Kan. The Tigers also competed in the Shocker Multis on Friday (Dec. 1) in Wichita.
The Shocker Multi witnessed Hadley Williams of the FHSU women claim 8th place in the pentathlon with a total of 2895 points, her new personal best. Kylin Rudzik followed closely with her personal best of 2619 points, securing the 10th spot.
In Topeka, the 400m dash saw a strong performance by Reba Mader, who powered her way to third place with a time of 59.18. Kinley Brown followed closely, securing the fourth spot with a time of 59.72. The middle-distance events saw Hattie Lukert claim second in the 800m Run, finishing with a time of 2:26.04.
Faith Little left her mark in the 1,000m run, claiming the third position with a time of 3:03.30. Annabeth Baalmann and Kaitlin Lindstrom placed third and fourth respectively in the pole vault with clearances of 11-9.75 and 10-10. Jayme Hagerman showcased her skills in the triple jump, securing fourth with a distance of 37-0.50 feet.
Shifting the focus to the men, Hayden Albrightdominated in the 400 meters by winning in a time of 48.52 seconds. He was one of two Tiger men to meet the national qualifying standard Saturday. Nathaniel Hubbard and Avrey Albright claimed the fourth and fifth positions in the same event with times of 50.15 and 50.36. In the 60m dash prelims, Eddie McVay was able to advance to the final with a time of 7.05. He improved in the final with a time of 7.00 for seventh place.
In the mile run, Ethan Fisher emerged victorious with a time of 4:22.80. Ethan Lang left all but two runners in the dust in the 600y run, securing the third spot with a time of 1:11.04. In the 1,000m run Trever Medinasecured second with a time of 2:26.23. The high jump saw Dayton Williams finish fifth with a clearance of 6-6.75.
The squads will travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to compete in the Boo Rodgers Combined Events (Dec. 8) as well as Crimson & Gold Invitational (Dec. 9). The FHSU track and field team will also send athletes to the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic in Kearney, Neb.
