Tigers defeat Bison, 4-1

The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team added a win to the win column on Saturday (Oct. 21) after defeating the Harding Bison 4-1. The Tiger offense exploded in the second period on the way to the impressive victory. The win now moves FHSU to 6-6-2 overall, 5-2-2 in GAC play, while Harding falls to 5-9-1 overall, 3-6-0 in conference matches.

Fort Hays State had success all match long finding quality shot looks. The Tigers recorded 10 shots in both periods, outshooting the Bison 10-5 in the first and 10-4 in the second. Fort Hays State also won the corner kick battle by a 8-1 mark.

It took just over 24 minutes for the Tiger offense to strike first off the fourth goal of the season from Tadhg Walsh. Walsh’s goal came after a rejected shot from Mike Leue. Ben Dixon tipped a point-blank shot attempt away, keeping the lead on Fort Hays’ side. Dixon had four saves in the match.

Fort Hays State poured on the goals in the second period with three scores all within a five-minute span. The first two of the three were both scored by Elias Ovelar Semeniuk with one in the 59′ and the other in the 61′. Pablo Orozco then followed suit by recording his first goal as a Tiger in the 64′. Orozco received a perfectly paced cross ball from Jackson Elgas for the final score for Fort Hays State.

Harding scored their lone goal in the 81′ minute. Their goal came via a throw in near midfield followed by a long pass up near the box.

With the win FHSU completes the weekend sweep as well as the season sweep of Harding. The Tigers will be back at home for a crucial match against Northeastern State on Thursday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m.
