CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team prevailed on the road against Rogers State on Sunday (Oct. 15) by a score of 1-0. The Tigers now sit in a two-way tie for first place in the league with an overall record of 10-1-3, 6-0-1 in MIAA play, while Rogers State drops to 6-6-2, 3-4 in conference games.
Another defensive battle took place in the early portions of Sunday’s match for the Tigers with both teams being held scoreless through the first half. Only six shots were kicked in the first half, 4-2 in favor of Fort Hays State. All four of FHSU’s shots were on goal in the first period. The Tigers did also earn two corner kicks.
Fort Hays State had more offensive opportunities in the second period, shooting nine total shots in the second half. Allison Worley connected for the lone core of the game in the 57′ off an assist from Kintzli Wagner.
The Tiger defended the box at a high level throughout the match, allowing just one shot on goal from the Hillcats that was saved by Isabel Robben.
Coach Tyson John and his team have played just three road games thus far in the season and are now 2-1 in those contests.
The Tigers will play again next weekend on the road against Missouri Southern State on Friday (Oct. 20) in Joplin, Mo. at 6 p.m.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team improved their record to 9-1-3, 5-0-1 in conference play on Friday (Oct. 13) after defeating Northeastern State 2-0 on the road. Northeastern State’s record moved to 3-6-4, 1-4-1 in MIAA action after the loss to the Tigers. The Tigers now sit one win behind the Riverhawks in the all-time series with a record of 5-6-1 against NSU. Friday’s 2-0 served to be the largest margin of victory for FHSU over Northeastern State in the series history.
The first period of Friday’s match was a defensive battle with only a combined eight shots on goal. Fort Hays State was outshot 7-6 by the Riverhawks through the first 45 minutes of play. Hannah Mares recorded two shots in the period with one on goal. Northeastern State had two players shoot multiple shots on goal in the first frame.
The tide turned in the second period where the Fort Hays State defense did not allow a single NSU shot. Isabel Robben was solid in goal for the Tigers with six saves, all in the first period. FHSU stated five shots in the second period, netting two of the five. Sullivan Kelly broke the scoreless tie in the 68′ off an assist from Jersey Garoutte. Allison Worley sealed the game with the second goal in the 82′. The goal by Worley notched her tenth point recorded on the season.
After wins by Washburn and Central Missouri on Friday there remains a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA conference.
Men’s soccer
he Fort Hays State Tigers faced off against the Rogers State Hillcats on Saturday night (Oct. 14). In the match that saw the Hillcats emerge victorious with a 7-0 scoreline.
To start the match, the Tigers had a few opportunities on goal, but could not convert. Rogers State managed to secure a 2-0 lead by halftime with goals from George Robinson and Trindon Turner. The second half saw an even more dominant display from Rogers State. George Robinson continued his scoring spree, adding another two goals for a hat trick as the Hillcats scored five times after halftime.
FHSU was able to place six shots on goal in the match, led by two from Agustin Ayala.
With the win, Rogers State moved to 8-3-2 overall and 5-2 in conference action. The Tigers are now 4-6-2 overall with a GAC record of 3-2-2. Fort Hays State plays its next match at home against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday (Oct. 19).
