Last Wednesday,  Alpha Sigma Alpha hosted Dogs on the Quad for the sixth year. This event helps to raise money for the Humane Society of the High Plains. Every year ASA invites the community and other students to bring their pets to the quad.

While letting the dogs play, the sorority sells hotdogs, chips, and water to earn more money, as well as taking whatever donations they are given.

“One hundred percent of our proceeds go back to the local humane society. This event is close to home with me as I got my dog from the humane society here in town,” ASA Service and Giving Chairman Kaydee Brin said. “It always feels good to be able to give back to our community. I think it gives a sense of warmth to the students around because, they are probably homesick and miss their own animals. So, we are able to bring joy and raise money for a good cause.”

This event helps students feel more at home and be able to pet and play with dogs that they are usually unable to and take their minds off of approaching tests, college stress or just being homesick.

“I liked this event because I didn’t get to bring my dog to college with me and I miss seeing her, so this made me feel less homesick. With midterms coming up I’ve been stressing myself out and this was a nice break,” freshman Averi Mccorgary said.

Smiles were seen all over the quad as they played with the dogs and supported a local cause.
