Enjoy a relaxing evening of socializing with tasty treats and an engaging presentation at the annual Hays Public Library Foundation Wine & Cheese Fundraiser scheduled to take place on Saturday, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Schmidt Community Commons area of the HPL.

The Hays Public Library Foundation Wine & Cheese Fundraiser is an event that began three years ago and has taken place each year since sometime in the fall, held in either September or October.

HPL Communications Coordinator Callie Kolacny outlines what participants can expect from the event.

“The event will consist of a social hour from 6:30 -7:30 p.m., where attendees enjoy a variety of wines and cheeses. Each year there is a guest speaker who follows the social hour,” Kolacny said. “This year Marci Penner, executive director of the Kansas Sampler Foundation will share her insights about Kansas.”

Additionally, the evening also includes a raffle and silent auction.

Kolacny explains that this is the HPL’s main fundraiser, however, the Foundation board is open to exploring other opportunities.

“We don’t have a set fundraising goal. As long as enough money is raised to cover the cost of the event and put some away for future projects, it will be considered a success,” she said.

Kolacny describes how the donations allow the library to expand collections, resources, and services to meet the needs of the community.

“The HPL Foundation raises funds for large and small projects that aren’t part of the established operating budget, such as the bookmobile and the latest library remodel,” she said. “The library is currently working on plans to update the basement which houses the Kansas Room and a majority of the adult collection.”

Kolacny invites everyone who is interested in supporting the HPL to purchase tickets. Tickets need to be purchased before the event.

Tickets can be purchased until the library closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday and are $30 and can be purchased at the library or online at hayslibrary.org/event/. Patrons smst be 21 or older to attend.

Kolacny makes sure to thank everyone for their prior years’ participation and looks forward to another great year of fundraising for the HPL.

“Each year we’ve been able to increase the number of sponsors,” she said. “We are so thankful to all of the businesses and individuals who are willing to donate to this event, as well as those who purchase tickets to attend.”
