The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team held Sioux Falls scoreless to improve to 3-0 on Friday (Sept. 8). Alex Hutton and Allison Worley both netted their first goals of the season late in the second period for the Tigers in the 2-0 victory.
The first half of Friday’s match was a defensive battle with the Tigers controlling the ball for a majority of the period. Fort Hays State was able to shoot 12 shots throughout the first 45 minutes of the match but could not find the back of the net. On defense the Tigers continued their strong defensive play, allowing just one shot from the Cougars in the first half. Sioux Falls’ goalkeeper Caroline Titze defended the goal well in the first period with six saves.
It was not until the 80′ when the tie was broken between the two teams. Forward Alex Hutton recorded the go-ahead goal for Fort Hays State with assists from Sullivan Kelly and Ryan McCabe. Just four minutes later in the 84′ Allison Worley headed in her first goal as a Tiger to stretch the lead to 2-0. The header came off an assist from a corner kick by Gracen Chaney.
Isabel Robben had three saves on the contest for Fort Hays State. The Tigers played flawlessly on the defensive end from start to finish to secure their second straight shutout.
Fort Hays State will host Augustana on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 10) with first kick scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
