With the calendar year already halfway through August, that could only mean one thing for Fort Hays State University students: School is just around the corner.
That also signals move-in day for students on campus. Most students moving into campus housing happened Wednesday and Thursday as FHSU welcomed new faces to Hays.
With Fort Hays starting classes Monday, students had two days to move in this week into Victory E. Village, McMindes Hall and Hansen Hall. Residential life has been busy preparing for the mass gathering of students arriving on campus at once.
“We have had to make sure that our strategy of getting everyone in and helped as fast as we could,” said assistant head of residential life Nathan Dozier.
For the two move-in days, an estimated 1,200 students moved in during that time. But even more incredible, move-in is primarily from 8 a.m. to noon both days. If that were true, 150 students would be moved in per hour.
Move-in was only possible with the help of the sororities and the freshman from the football team.
“What makes our process smooth is the help of our freshmen move-in day is the efficiency of the student organizations that help us do this process,” Dozier said.
Move-In day is not the only thing going on this week as the welcome week continues with freshmen orientation and floor meetings, along with other events that offer food to students.
The Fall 2023 semester will start Monday with the first day of classes.
