Brasser 29th at regional meet

LARCHWOOD, Iowa – Fort Hays State junior golfer Morgan Brasser finished in a tie for 29th at the 2023 NCAA Division II Central Regional, held May 8-10 at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort. She completed the three-round tournament with a score of 14-over 230 on the par-72, 6,095-yard course.

Brasser opened the week with a round of 10-over 82 in the opening round before improving by four strokes with a 6-over 78 in Tuesday’s round two. She wrapped up the week with a 2-under 70 on Wednesday, one of nine under-par rounds all week. The Andale, Kan. native circled four birdies in the final round, including three in a row on holes seven, eight and nine.

It was Brasser’s third-consecutive trip to the regional championships, tied for the most in program history (Hannah Perkins). The 2023 MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Year finished the season with a school-record stroke average of 75.82, lowering her career average to a school-record 77.24 across 71 rounds of competition. She fired nine rounds at-or-under par, including two rounds of 69 that tied the school record. Brasser won three tournaments this season in addition to six top-five finishes and eight top-10s.

Sixth-ranked Henderson State rallied to take the team title at 13-over 877 after posting a 2-under 286 in the final round. Northeastern State’s Yasmin Hang turned in a final-round 3-under 69 to win by one stroke, finishing the week at 4-under 212.
