5 earn All-American honors at indoor nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Fort Hays State track and field program picked up five All-American honors Saturday (March 11) on day two of the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Four student-athletes from the men’s team earned their way onto the All-America podium, while one from the women’s squad earned second team honors.

The Tiger men finished 24th in the team standings with nine team points.

Jacob Clark finished sixth at the indoor national meet for the second year in a row after safely clearing the bar at 17-0.75. Ryan Stanley was one spot back in seventh with a top clearance of 16-8.75, earning his seventh career All-American trophy.

Hayden Albright earned his third All-American trophy with a seventh-place finish in the 400m dash finals, crossing the line in 47.72. Nolan Churchman also finished seventh in the heptathlon, picking up 5,326 points to finish on the podium in a multi-event competition at a third-consecutive national meet.

Mattie Rossi earned her seventh All-America honor after finishing 10th in the pentathlon with 3,740 points, good for a second team All-American recognition. Her top event was the 60m hurdles, where she compiled 961 points with a time of 8.76. Taylor Savolt placed 14th in the event after raking in 3,523 points.

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Albright, Philip LandrumEthan Lang and Churchman wrapped up the festivities with an 11th-place finish after posting a time of 3:13.58.

The Tigers will now turn their attention outdoors, where the spring season is set to kick off March 24-25 at the ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan.
