CHADRON, Neb. – The Fort Hays State wrestling team will send two wrestlers to the NCAA Championships as Cade Lindsey (174) and Tereus Henry (197) punched their tickets to Cedar Rapids by reaching the regional championship at their respective weights. The Tigers placed seventh as a team out of 11 programs at the 2023 NCAA Division II Super Region VI Championships on Saturday (Feb. 25) with 57 points.

Henry scored two wins by technical fall on his way to the semifinals where he defeated Kash Anderson from Colorado Mesa. In the finals, Henry would face 12th-ranked Anderson Salisbury for the third time this season. Henry defeated Salisbury via sudden victory in both of the previous matchups. An early takedown and a four-point near fall helped lift Henry over Salisbury to claim the regional title and punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year.

After receiving a first-round bye, Lindsey advanced to the semifinals with a 7-4 decision. Lindsey would face sixth-ranked Cole Hernandez from Western Colorado. The sophomore claimed his second victory of the year over Hernandez with a first-period fall. In the championship, Lindsey faced third-ranked Austin Eldredge from Nebraska-Kearney. Eldredge got the early takedown before Lindsey evened the score with a reversal. Eldredge took the lead at the end of the period with an escape. Lindsey would tie the match again scoring an escape in the second period. Eldredge managed another escape to open the final period but two stalling calls awarded Lindsey the tying point as time expired. With the match tied, it came down to riding time once again between Eldredge and Lindsey as the former claimed the title via 5-4 decision.

Tony Caldwell (285) also reached the semifinals picking up a win by sudden victory on the way, but was bounced to the back side with a loss to Mason Watt from Chadron State. Caldwell kept his hopes alive by advancing to the third-place match with in a narrow 2-1 decision, but he was unable to punch his ticket falling in a 9-5 decision to finish fourth.

Cody Hicks (157) and Bryce Westmoreland (184) both reached the consolation semifinals in their pursuit of third-place but fell just short, each of them finishing sixth. After falling to top-ranked Noah Hermosillo of Adams State in the opening round, Hicks worked his way up the consolation ladder receiving a bye before breaking off a pair of wins including a first-period fall to reach the semifinals. Despite the strong swing of momentum, Hicks would finish the day 2-3 and capture sixth place. Westmoreland received a first-round bye before falling to Ryan Cody of Colorado School of Mines. After another bye, Westmoreland secured a 4-2 decision to advance to the semifinals. After falling in the semifinals, Westmoreland met with Cody again in the fifth-place match where he would fall via 9-4 decision.

Henry and Lindsey will head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in two weeks for the NCAA Championships inside Alliant Energy PowerHouse. Action begins at 11 a.m. on Friday (March 10) and continues on Saturday (March 11) at 10 a.m.
