KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State baseball sophomore Elliott Herrmann has been named the first MIAA Hitter of the Week for the 2023 season, announced Monday (Feb. 6) by the league office.
The Tiger first baseman was nearly impossible to retire at the plate during the opening series of the year, reaching base 13 times in 18 plate appearances for an on-base percentage of .722. Herrmann collected six hits, including two home runs and two doubles, while driving in eight RBI, scoring eight runs and slugging 1.273.
Herrmann opened his Tiger career with a home run in his first at-bat of the season on Friday before recording another home run and a two-RBI double in the eighth inning of Saturday’s FHSU victory. He did not record an error in the field, converting on all 28 chances at first base.
Herrmann shared the honor with Newman’s Jake Angelico. The Castle Rock, Colo. native is the first Tiger to earn MIAA Hitter of the Week honors since Garrett Stephens earned the award three years ago.
The Tiger baseball team will head back out on the road next weekend to take on New Mexico Highlands in another four-game series Friday-Saturday (Feb. 10-11) in Las Vegas, N.M.
