7 provisionals, 2 champs at Topeka indoor meet

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Tiger track and field team racked up seven provisional performances and took home two first-place finishes at the Washburn Rust Buster Saturday (Jan. 21).

Mattie Rossi was responsible for three provisional performances on the day, doing so in the 60m hurdles, the long jump and the 4x400m relay. The senior placed third in the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.70 and finished second in the long jump with a top mark of 18-6.5. She finished the day alongside Lyric HolmanEmily Salmans and Taylor Savolt with a second-place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:52.95. That time ranks fifth at FHSU during the NCAA DII era.

Holman added a provisional performance of her own in the 60m dash, placing sixth in the finals with a time of 7.66.

Trever Medina added a pair of provisional marks on the men’s side, finishing sixth in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.90 before teaming up with Hayden AlbrightEthan Lang and Nolan Churchman to come away victorious in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:14.81. The relay time was just six-hundredths of a second off the school record and is the second-fastest time at FHSU during the DII era.

Lang added an individual title in the 600y run, placing first in 1:11.82. Ryan Stanley turned in the final provisional mark, placing fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of the bar at 16-0.75.

Other top finishers included Reba Mader in the 400m dash, placing third with a time of 57.99. That time is one second shy of the school record and ranks second on the DII era performance chart. Elizabeth Fender also added her name to the DII era list, doing so in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:24.70 to finish second. She now sits in 10th on the FHSU DII performance chart. Rossi added her name to the eighth spot on the DII chart in the 200m dash with a time of 25.56, good for sixth. Holman finished two spots in front of Rossi in that race, placing fourth in 25.36.

Albright was the final individual to post a top-10 mark for a Tiger during the DII era, finishing sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.73.

The Tigers are next scheduled to compete on Friday (Jan. 27) when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. to compete in the Jayhawk Classic Invitational.
