Wrestling places three at Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – All three Fort Hays State wrestlers competing on day two of the Midwest Classic placed in their individual weights. Fourth-ranked Tereus Henryfinished as the runner-up at 197 pounds, Cade Lindseycaptured third-place at 174 pounds, and Mason Turnerfinished eighth at 133 pounds.

Henry advanced to the finals via medical forfeit to face top-ranked Dalton Abney from Central Oklahoma. After a scoreless first period, Abney scored an escape early in the second period to take a lead 1-0. Henry also scored an escape in the third period, but not before Abney racked up enough riding time to give him the win by 2-1 decision. Henry finished the tournament 4-1 with three bonus point wins.

Lindsey scored first-round pins against two ranked opponents on his way to the consolation semifinals. He started the day with a fall in 2:21 over eighth-ranked Jack Bond of Lander University before pinning ninth-ranked Cole Hernandez of Western Colorado in less than a minute. Lindsey managed a 2-0 decision over Tre’Vaughn Craig of UCO to reach the third-place match. In the placement match, Lindsey controlled the pace for the entire match accumulating over three minutes of riding time and secured a bronze finish with a 4-0 decision. Lindsey finished the tournament 7-1 with four bonus point victories, including three-consecutive first period falls.

Turner started his day with an 11-0 major decision but lost his next two matches to capture eighth-place falling by major decision in the consolation quarterfinals before defaulting the seventh-place match with an injury. Turner finished the tournament 3-2 with a pair of bonus point wins.

The Tigers finished tied for 11th as a team with 60 points. Third-ranked Central Oklahoma won the tournament as a team with 178.5 points and claimed three individual championships.
