KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State wrestling team competed in the Younes Hospitality Open on Saturday (Nov. 19). The Tigers had three placers including an individual championship from 11th-ranked Tereus Henry at 197 pounds.
Henry received a first-round bye before fighting his way to the semifinals with wins by 10-6 decision and 12-4 major decision in a rematch of the championship match from the Dakota Wesleyan Open with Max Ramberg of Augustana. In the semifinals, he faced the fourth-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, Matt Kaylor of the University of Mary. Henry took Kaylor down early in the first period to take the lead and never looked back claiming an 8-5 decision to reach the finals. In the finals Henry faced sixth-ranked Anderson Salisbury of Colorado School of Mines. At the end of regulation, the score was tied 3-3, but Henry secured a takedown to claim a 5-3 sudden victory win and claim the Tigers’ first individual tournament championship of the season.
Competing unattached, Cason Lindsey (157) grappled his way into a runner-up finish. Lindsey put together a string of wins by decision to reach the finals.
