Men’s golf eighth at Tulsa Cup

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Fort Hays State Men’s Golf placed eighth at the Tulsa Cup played at The Club at Indian Springs, a par-72 layout. Maddux Mills was the top Tiger finisher in a tie for 19th individually at 7-over par. The tournament was only 36 holes, played in damp conditions due to rain in the Tulsa area.

Mills put together rounds of 75 and 76 for a 151 total. He had three birdies in the opening round, then two in the second round. Tanner Copeland was the next Tiger finisher in a tie for 26th, shooting rounds of 74 and 78 for an 8-over total of 152. He had four birdies throughout the tournament.

Jackson Rader elevated nine spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 33rd at 9-over par. Following an opening round 78, he shot 75 in a round he carded 15 pars. Rader had a pair of birdies in the opening round. Bryce Cowan had four birdies throughout the tournament, shooting rounds of 74 and 81 to tie for 41stDustin Nichols also competed for the Tigers, shooting rounds of 86 and 80 finishing alone in 82nd.

Northeastern State and Southwestern Oklahoma State tied for first, both at 590 (+14). Henderson State, the No. 10 ranked team in the nation was right on the heels of both at 591 (+15). FHSU shot rounds of 301 and 309 for a total of 610. The Tigers were the fourth-highest finishing MIAA team competing at the tournament.

Conner Boydston of Southwestern Oklahoma State pulled away for the individual title at 6-under par. He was one of four golfers in the field to finish under par, but still won by four strokes.

The Tigers have completed the fall portion of their 2022-23 season and will return to action in March.
