Rader in top five for men’s golf

NEWTON, Kan. – Fort Hays State Men’s Golf finished seventh at the Newman Invitational, held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course (Oct. 17-18). Jackson Rader turned in a top-5 performance by tying for fourth individually at 5-over par overall to lead the Tigers.

Rader carded 10 birdies over three rounds, posting rounds of 75, 73, and 73 at the par-72 course for a total of 221. He led the tournament in par-5 scoring, scoring 6-under par on the four par-5 holes on the course over three rounds. He tied for the second-most birdies in the tournament only behind Bennett Baldwin of Central Oklahoma with 12, who finished second individually at even par.

Maddux Mills tied for 35th individually with a total of 232. He shot rounds of 78, 74, and 80 and posted six birdies for the tournament. Tanner Copeland tied for 43rd at 234, shooting rounds of 78, 75, and 81 with seven birdies to his credit. Bryce Cowan and Parker Krob tied for 49th. Cowan reached his total of 236 with rounds of 89, 75, and then an even-par 72, while Krob shot rounds of 78, 77, and 81. Cowan had six birdies, all within the last two rounds of the tournament, while Krob had five throughout the tournament.

The Tigers shot 912 as a team. A 297 in the second round was their lowest of the tournament, bookended by 309 and 306.

Concordia-St. Paul won the tournament at 893. Missouri Southern was second with 896 and Northeastern State was third at 898. Jackson Cole of Arkansas Tech won the tournament individually at 1-under par overall. After going 1-over par in the first round, he shot a pair of 1-under rounds to claim the title.

The FHSU Men finish the fall portion of their season at the Tulsa Cup next week in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament will take place at The Club at Indian Springs.
