By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team knocked off Ouachita Baptist 4-0 on Thursday (Sept. 22) in Hays. After a first-half goal by Blake Arndt, the Tigers scored three times in the second half to walk away with their second shutout victory of the season. FHSU moved to 4-2-3 (2-0-1 GAC), while OBU fell to 0-7-2 (0-3 GAC).

No. 22 ranked Fort Hays State was quick to jump on offense taking five shots before Ouachita Baptist took its first. FHSU was finally able to break through when Callum Frogson chipped the ball to Anders Sandsto in the corner who then crossed the ball and it glanced off of the keeper’s mitts directly in front of Arndt who drove the ball through in the 42nd minute for his third goal of the season. By halftime, Fort Hays State had outshot Ouachita Baptist 12-1.

In the second half, the Tigers came to life as a quick chain of passes from Odhran Lawlor and Jae Ho Shin found Tyler Lockhart in the box, who punched the ball in for his second goal of the season in the 69th minute. Moments later, Haruya Iwasaki netted his second goal of the season as he headed in a perfectly placed free kick from Tadhg Walsh in the 77th minute. The scoring came to a close in the 83rd minute as a set piece play from Anders Sandsto made its way to Agustin Ayala who headed it in for his first goal as a Tiger.

Fort Hays State set a new season high with 25 shots and put 10 on target. Ouachita Baptist finished with four shots and placed two on goal. Kieran Brown nabbed two saves in the match, while Armani Atilano picked up six for OBU.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday (Sep. 24) when they host Harding with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
