Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 2-2 on the season with a 7-0 win over Sterling College on Tuesday (Sept. 20) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. It was the home opener of the 2022-23 season for the Tigers.

The Tigers picked up the first point of the match by sweeping doubles play. Stefany Stemmer and Grace Unruh (No. 1) won their match 6-1, and Heidi Lubbers and Hope Lubbers (No. 2) won their match 6-2.

Irina Alfonso nearly shutout her opponent at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Maria Paz Diaz’s opponent at No. 2 singles had to retire mid match. Gracen Friess (No. 4) picked up a win by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Fiorella Mendez won her match 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.

Select members of the Tiger Tennis team will compete at the ITA Fall Central Regional in Edmond, Oklahoma this weekend. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday (Sept. 23-25).
