THORNTON, Colo. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team turned in an 11th-place finish at the 2022 Swan Memorial this week (Sept. 12-13) at Todd Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 5,997-yard layout outside Denver. The Tigers finished with a three-round total of 955, just four shots behind 10th place.
After opening the tournament with a first-round 327, the Tigers improved tremendously in the afternoon on Monday after shaving 17 strokes off their team score. Morgan Brasser, Shauna Lee, Aliyah North and Hannah Nimmo combined for a score of 310 in round two, the fourth-best single round in program history.
Fort Hays State finished the event with a score of 318 in the final round on Tuesday, maintaining their place on the 16-team leaderboard.
Brasser finished the opening day in a tie for first place after back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 before finishing in sixth place at 9-over 225 across three rounds. The junior tied for first in the 89-player field with 37 pars across the 54 holes while carding five birdies on the week.
Lee factored in to the team score in both the first and second rounds with scores of 80 and 78 on day one. She finished the event in 47th after a third-round 84, finishing at 26-over 242. The sophomore led the Tigers and ranked 11th in the field with six birdies across the three rounds.
Lexie Ridder competed as an individual and tied for 51st with rounds of 82, 81 and 82 to finish at 29-over 245. Her second-round 81 was a new career low for the sophomore, who totaled five birdies in the event.
North bounced back after a tough first round to post a pair of sub-80 scores in rounds two and three, factoring in to the team score in both rounds. She fired a first-round 90 before improving by 11 shots Monday afternoon, turning in an 8-over 79. The freshman improved again on Tuesday, tying for the low round by a Tiger in round three at 7-over 78. North finished in a tie for 56th at 31-over 247 while recording four birdies on the week.
Nimmo was one of only two Tigers that factored in to the team score in all three rounds, finishing in 59th place after rounds of 86, 80 and 83 to finish at 33-over 249. The freshman ranked second on the team with 26 pars on the week.
Kerrigan Rudolph shook off a tough opening day to fire a career-low 78 in the third and final round, tied for the best round by a Tiger on Tuesday. The junior finished in a tie for 67th at 39-over 255 with rounds of 88, 89 and 78.
Event host Colorado Christian won the tournament at 39-over 903, while Midwestern State’s Tristan Gabbard placed first in the individual competition at 2-over 907 (71-77-70).
The Tigers will have next week off before hosting the Lady Tiger Classic September 26-27 at Smoky Hill Country Club, their first home tournament in eight years.
