Tiger Basketball adds D-1 transfer

The Fort Hays State men’s basketball team has added a Division I transfer athlete to its squad this off-season for the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

Royce Williams, a 6’5 junior spent the past two seasons playing for Weber State in Odgen, Utah. Williams helped the Wildcats win their ninth Big Sky Tournament Championship and earn their 15th bid into the NCAA Tournament in 2014.

In 58 career games with Weber State, Williams shot 45.5% from 3 point range, attempting 57 threes and averaged 2.5 points per game. During the 2012 season, Williams’ sophomore season, he assisted the Wildcats in their record setting 30-7 season, setting his career high in scoring when he scored 17 against University of the Southwest.

Williams started his college career at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M. After sitting out his first year with the Broncos as a red shirt, Williams would led the team in points with 11.9 per game, scoring in the double digits 16 times and 20 or more points on two occasions. Williams shot 47% from the field while at N.M. Military Institute and 36% from 3 point range, ranking third on the team in assists.

Williams will have big shoes to fill after 6’5 Lance Russell and three-point shooter Carson Konrade both departed over the last two seasons.
