KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State track and field team posted 11 provisional performances and captured 15 first-place finishes at the Central Nebraska Challenge Saturday (April 2). The women’s team totaled five provisional marks and eight event victories, while the men collected six provisionals and seven individual wins.
Lyric Holman won both the 100m dash and the 200m dash with a pair of provisional marks, running the 100m race in 11.66 and the 200m dash in 23.94. Mattie Rossi also took home a pair of titles and multiple provisional marks in both hurdle races. The junior won the 100m hurdles in 13.93 and the 400m hurdles in 1:01.06. Addie Berens was first in the javelin throw with a top heave of 144-3, good for her second provisional mark in as many weeks.
Gretchen Kuffel finished first in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:12.71, less than one second off the school record. Halle Johnson won the 1,500m run with a time of 4:41,16, good for fourth at FHSU during the DII era. Taylor Savolt won the triple jump with a top distance of 38-4.75, good for sixth on the DII era performance chart. She also moved up to third on the 400m hurdles top 10 list with a time of 1:02.61, finishing second. Jessie Castellucci placed sixth in the hammer throw with a top heave of 162-8, good for seventh on the DII era performance list at FHSU.
On the men’s side, Philip Landrum won the 100m dash with a provisional qualifying time of 10.41. He later teamed up with Cole Diffenbaugh, Hayden Albright and Xavier Robinson to win the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.54. Robinson also had a win of his own, placing first in the triple jump with a provisional leap of 49-5, good for third on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Jacob Clark placed first in the pole vault with a provisional clearance of 16-8.75.
Ethan Lang ran a provisional time of 1:49.76 in the 800m run, placing third and moving into second on the FHSU DII era performance chart. David Enns surpassed the provisional distance in the javelin, finishing second with a top mark of 194-9.
The Tigers also came away victorious in the 4x400m relay, with Albright, Kaden Wren, Trever Medina and Lang combining for a time of 3:16.32.
Outside the two relays, Albright also has a pair of event wins in the 200m dash and the 400m dash. His time of 21.52 in the 200m dash is 10th-best at FHSU during the DII era, while his mark of 48.02 in the 400m race is 6th on the DII era performance chart.
Medina finished just behind Lang in fourth in the 800m run, crossing the line in 1:52.55 to move to 10th on the DII era performance chart. Jack Pakkebier finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.13, good for seventh on the DII era top 10 list.
The Tigers will next compete at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan. April 6-9.
