Vitztum earns all-district honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jared Vitztum of Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball is an NABC All-District Second Team selection for the second straight year, announced on Monday (Mar. 21). The Hays senior averaged 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in 2021-22 to earn recognition as a top-10 player in the extremely competitive NCAA Division II Central Region. Vitztum was also a repeat All-MIAA First Team selection and CoSIDA Academic All-America selection this season.

In 2021-22, Vitztum produced 16 double-doubles in 29 games for the Tigers. He scored in double figures 25 times during the season and never had less than seven points in a game. Vitztum scored a season-high 25 points against Lincoln University. He reached double figures in rebounding 17 times, with a season high of 17 against Southwestern Oklahoma State. He helped the Tigers to an overall record of 23-6, which was the most wins by an FHSU team that did not get selected to the NCAA tournament in the program’s Division II history that dates back to 1991-92. He also helped the Tigers appear in multiple NABC and D2SIDA Top 25 Polls throughout the season with No. 18 as the team’s highest ranking of the season.

Vitztum finished his career at FHSU with 1,580 points and 944 rebounds. He now ranks fifth all-time in scoring at FHSU and second in rebounds.

Vitztum was one of four student-athletes from the MIAA recognized on the all-district team. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference also had four representatives, while the Great American Conference had two.
