Multiple gym classes available at FHSU

By REBEKAH REED

Going to the gym can be intimidating for some people.

Maybe a person has never been, or they want someone to exercise with.

The fitness center at Fort Hays State University’s Cunningham Hall has free workout classes throughout the week at various times. Different guided classes like HIIT, Zumba, yoga and more are offered Mondays through Thursdays. Classes are open to students with any fitness level or experience.

Lyly Le attends the 6:30 a.m. Tuesday/Thursday sessions.

“I enjoy how versatile (the workouts) are,” she said. “Every workout is challenging and can be adjusted to your own needs.”

The guided classes target the whole body to get a well-rounded workout. The environment is energetic and welcoming.

Sianna Miller attends the 4:40 p.m. classes Monday through Thursday and has been for five years.

“My favorite thing about the workout classes is the people. I love how we’ve become like a workout class family,” Miller said.

The two students encourage others who are hesitant to attend.

“I was the same way at first. Just try it,” Miller said. “You never know how much you will (enjoy it) until you do. You’ll enjoy it. We have a lot of fun.:

“I would definitely recommend the classes,” Le said. “They are a good way to stay active throughout the school year.”

All classes are free and open to students, faculty and staff. For the full fitness class schedule with locations, visit https://www.fhsu.edu/hhp/tigerfitness/.

The Tiger Fitness Center also is sporting a new look after renovation work last summer.

Drew Gannon, director of the center, urges everyone to check out the new facility.

“New floors and new equipment, which we are still very excited about,” he said.
