HMS uses fundraiser to lift cheerleader’s spirit

The love was apparent in the Hays Middle School gym on Jan. 31. Camdyn Darrah, a cheerleader on the middle school’s squad, has been seeking treatments as she battles cancer.

Her teammates and coaches not only rally for Darrah on the court but off the court as well. This is seen through their actions of hosting a fundraiser for her during the school’s basketball games.

“When we heard that one of our squad members was diagnosed with cancer, we knew we needed to do something to help her and her family,” said Jaici Simon, the Hays Middle School cheer squad’s head coach.

The cheerleaders’ goal of the fundraiser was to relieve some of Darrah and her family’s stresses to allow them to focus on what matters most.

“We decided to host the fundraiser to support Camdyn and her fight,” Simon said. “The proceeds will go to Camdyn and her family’s travel and meal expenses while she is receiving treatment.”

“All we want is to show love and support for such an amazing person.”

Proceeds from the concession stand that day also were donated to Darrah’s family, and other individuals and organizations donated to the cause as well. In all, approximately $1,600 was donated to help with expenses.
