KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s track and field team swept this week’s MIAA Athlete of the Week honors (Feb. 22), with Lyric Holman picking up the track award and Alexandra Hart receiving the honor in the field events.

Holman broke her own school record in the 200m at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday (Feb. 18), finishing first out of 25 athletes with a time of 24.38. She shaved nearly three-tenths of a second off per previous record in the process while beating eight DI competitors. The junior now ranks 10th this season in DII and second in the MIAA in the 200m dash. She also surpassed the provisional time in the 60m, running in 7.58 to place second. The Junction City, Kan. native heads into this week’s MIAA Championships with the fastest 60m time this season, a 7.45 set earlier this month in Pittsburg. This is the fifth weekly MIAA honor in Holman’s career and the second indoors.

Hart moved to 10-0 all-time in indoor high jump competition, winning with a top clearance of 5-7.75 at the Loper Tune-Up on Friday. It was the top jump of the season for the defending national champion, moving her up to third in the MIAA and 13th nationally this winter. This is the third time the Rolla, Kan. native has been named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week in her career.

Fort Hays State has now earned four weekly MIAA honors this season, with Ryan Stanley garnering the men’s field award twice.

Hart, Holman and the rest of the Tigers will be in Maryville, Mo. for the MIAA Championships this weekend (Feb. 25-27). The women’s high jump competition is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, while Holman will run in prelim races on Saturday with finals to follow on Sunday.
