Last week on Valentine’s Day, Chita Espino Bravo and the Fort Hays Modern Languages Department launched the 2022 Spring Hispanic film festival with Ocho Apellidos Vascos Emilio Martínez-Lázaro . The film is a romantic comedy about a Basque girl Amaia, played by Clara Lago, who is jilted at the altar and cannot bring herself to tell her father who has been gone for six years. So she comes up with a plot to have a man she has only recently met Rafa, a native of Seville Andalusia, to pretend to be her Basque fiance to deceive her father. The film also stars Carmen Machi as Merche (Anne) and Karra Elejalde as Kolo (Amaia’s Father).
Students were able to sit back and laugh as they enjoyed the Spanish film. At the end of the event, Dr. Espino Bravo invited everyone to come to the next film festival date for the sequel Ocho Apellidos Catalanes on February 28th at 6 pm in Albertson Hall, with the only requirement being a mask. Below are the upcoming film festival dates.
