With the Fort Hays Softball season having started last Friday, the team will head to Oklahoma City, Okla. for week two of the season. FHSU dropped its first series against MSU Denver 0-2, and split with Regis, 1-1.
“We didn’t have the outcomes that we wanted, but there is a lot of positive things to take out of the weekend.” Head Softball Coach Adrian Pilkington said.
With only two seniors, Jessica Espinoza and Sara Breckbill, this team is very young but full of freshmen ready to compete.
“We have a lot of young kids competing for the first time at the collegiate level, so we have a lot of things to learn from, but there were also some positive lessons that came out of the weekend,” Pilkington said.
According to Pilkington, Breckbill, a 5th-year senior, who received 2019 All-MIAA Second Team Catcher honors as well as 2021 All-MIAA Honorable Mention, will be a big component for the team offensively and defensively, and will also be someone the younger athletes on the team can look up to.
The Tigers will face off against Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Christion on Friday and then Cameron University and Midwestern State on Saturday.
The team looks to improve their current 1-3 record over this upcoming weekend and continue to improve the talented freshmen class.
