Tigers with six provisionals at All-Kansas Invite

By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State track and field team resumed its season Saturday (Jan. 22) at the All-Kansas Invite. The Tigers recorded six provisional marks and broke one school record while three individuals earned first-place finishes.

Four provisionals and all three individual titles came on the men’s side. FHSU swept the podium in the pole vault, with Ryan Stanley finishing first with a jump of 16-6.75, Jacob Clark placing second with a jump of 16-4.75 and Mark Faber coming in third with a clearance of 15-11.00. All three jumps surpassed the NCAA DII provisional threshold.

Xavier Robinson took home first place in the triple jump after a huge PR of 49-3.50, more than one foot past his previous best. The mark is a new high at FHSU during the DII era and is just shy of the overall school record. Robinson is tentatively 13th on the NCAA DII performance chart.

Trever Medina was the final Tiger with a top finish, placing first in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.06. The indoor PR places Medina 10th on the DII era performance chart.

Other top finishers on the men’s side included Kolgan Ohl placing fourth in the weight throw (53-11.75), Robbie Schmidt coming in fifth in the 3,000m run (8:25.94), Jack Pakkebier placing fourth in the 400m dash (50.80) and the 4x400m relay team of Hayden Albright, Taivian Creamer, Kaden Wren and Trever Medina placing fourth (3:24.16).

On the women’s side, Lyric Holman continued to do what she does best – break records. The junior shaved off another nine-hundredths of a second off her record in the 200m dash, finishing second with a time of 24.64. She also finished second in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 7.60. Both marks were faster than the NCAA DII provisional pace.

Mattie Rossi finished third in the 60m hurdles finals, completing the race in 8.85. Taylor Linn was also second in the pole vault after clearing the 11-3.75 bar.

Several Tigers earned third-place finishes, including Taylor Savolt in the 600y run after a time of 1:30.73. Gretchen Kuffel finished third in the 3,000m run after crossing the line in 10:23.96, while Summer Kragel ended up third in the high jump with a clearance of 5-5. Also finishing third with a time of 3:54.44 was the 4x400m relay team of Rossi, Savolt, Chloe Stanley and Lyric Holman.

Fort Hays State will return to competition next weekend (Jan. 28-29) at a pair of events, including the Washburn Open back in Topeka and the UNK Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, Neb.
