By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State track and field team tallied 10 event victories and posted seven provisional performances at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic Friday (Dec. 10).

The women’s team was responsible for six of the first-place finishes and a pair of provisional marks. Lyric Holman was first in the 60m dash, running a top time of 7.53 in the preliminary round to eclipse the provisional threshold for the second week in a row. She also came away victorious in the 400m dash, running in 59.73.

Halle Johnson took home first in the mile run, posting a time of 5:10.99 to etch her name in seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Gretchen Kuffel took home the final win on the track with a first-place finish in the 3,000m run, completing the race in 10:37.09.

The Tigers women also won a pair of field events, with Summer Kragel taking first in the high jump (5-3.75) and Taylor Savolt winning the triple jump with a leap of 40-0. Savolt is now second on the FHSU DII era performance chart and is only the second Tiger to clear 40 feet during the DII era. After clearing the provisional threshold, the sophomore currently sits in fifth on this season’s national performance chart.

Taylor Linn set an indoor PR in the pole vault by two inches, placing second after clearing the 11-9.25 bar on her first attempt. The sophomore is ranked fourth on the FHSU DII era performance chart in the indoor pole vault.

Savolt also placed second in the 60m hurdles, running in 8.97 to climb to seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Chloe Stanley was just behind in third with a time of 9.02, good for eighth on the same FHSU list.

Tori Poe was second in the 400m dash, running in 1:03.07, while Darian Hudgeons was second in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:44.71. Emily Salmans is now ninth on the FHSU DII era performance chart in the mile run after placing third with a time of 5:12.56.

The men’s team took home five provisional performances and four first-place finishes. Ryan Stanley was the lone Tiger to do both, winning the pole vault after clearing the 16-8 bar on his third and final attempt.

Mark Faber also cleared the provisional threshold in the pole vault, finishing second with an indoor PR of 16-4, good for seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Jacob Clark was third in the event, also posting a provisional clearance of 16-0.

Dayton Williams cleared an indoor PR in the high jump, finishing second after surpassing the 6-8.25 bar. He now sits in a tie for sixth on the FHSU DII era performance chart after posting an NCAA DII provisional mark.

Aaron Mangan recorded the lone provisional mark on the track for a Tiger, finishing third in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.89. The time converts down to 1:52.40 due to track size, currently 10th-best in Division II.

Hayden Albright won a pair of events, coming in first in the 60m dash and the 400m dash. He won the 60m dash after posting a top time of 6.93 in the preliminary round, matching his personal best. Albright posted a time of 50.70 to win the 400m dash, a new personal best by more than two seconds.

The final event victory belonged to Xavier Robinson who won the long jump with a clearance of 23-0.5.

Sabino Medrano was third in the 60m hurdles finals after recording a best time of 8.61 in the prelims. Jaret Pfizenmaier finished third in the mile with a time of 4:29.58, while Javyn Contreras was fourth in the 3,000m run after crossing the line in 9:15.62.

After compiling a total of 16 provisional marks from 11 different athletes over the first two weekends of the season, the Tigers will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on January 22 at the All-Kansas Invite in Topeka, Kan.
