INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer is now No. 10 in the latest NCAA Super Region 3 rankings, released on Wednesday (Nov. 10). The Tigers slipped one spot down from No. 9 to No. 10 in the final set of rankings before selections to the NCAA Tournament are announced on Monday following conference tournaments this weekend.
The Tigers are now on the bubble for getting into the NCAA Tournament. Ten teams will be selected to compete in the Super Region 3 bracket and the Tigers are now right on the cut line. However, the four conference tournament winners in the super region will receive automatic bids into the tournament, which will leave only six teams to receive at-large bids.
Fort Hays State is the only team from the GAC/MIAA listed in the top 12 of the rankings, so any of the other three teams in the GAC/MIAA Tournament are looking to grab an automatic bid to the national tournament. There is a good chance that FHSU needs to win the GAC/MIAA Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, currently sitting in the last spot in as it stands today. Should teams outside the top 10 win any of the other three conference tournaments, it will narrow Fort Hays State’s chances of an at-large bid even further and potentially put the Tigers in a must-win situation this weekend.
Davenport moved up from No. 10 to No. 9 this week, trading spots with Fort Hays State in the rankings. Davenport went 1-0 last week, while FHSU went 1-1. Both FHSU and Davenport play in their respective conference tournament semifinals on Friday.
