Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer shut out Northeastern State 2-0 on Thursday (Nov. 4) at FHSU Soccer Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers came to life and scored twice in the second half to put the game away. The Tigers improved to 11-4-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the GAC, while the Riverhawks fell to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play. With this win, the Tigers put themselves in position to play for the GAC regular season title on Saturday against Southern Nazarene.
The
Tigers doubled the RiverHawks in shots in the first half 8-4, but the teams
headed to the locker room scoreless. The first FHSU score came from Taisei
Arima in the 59th minute as he received a pass from
Viktor
Robertsson on the left side of the box and sent the ball past
the keeper. Later in the match, Blake
Arndt put the game out of reach for the Tigers by scoring his
ninth goal of the season off of a pass from Arima.
The Tigers finished with 13 shots compared to eight by the RiverHawks. Keeper Kieran
Brown and the Tiger defense recorded their fourth shutout in a
row, and the sixth this season as he posted five saves.
The match between FHSU and Southern Nazarene in
Hays on Saturday at 1 pm will determine the conference regular season champion.
FHSU (8-2-1 GAC) can claim the title with a win or tie, while SNU (8-3 GAC) can
claim the title with a win.
