INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer remains No. 9 in the second edition of the NCAA Super Region rankings, released on Wednesday (Nov. 3). The Tigers remain the only team from the GAC/MIAA within the top 12 of the Super Region 3 rankings.
Maryville University moves to No. 1 in the Super Region this week, a team that the Tigers tied in a neutral site contest earlier this season in Kansas City. University of Indianapolis slipped to No. 2 after taking its first loss of the season last week against Maryville. There was more jostling in the No. 3 through No. 8 positions, but all among teams that remain ahead of FHSU in the rankings. Positions 9 through 12 remain the same, led by FHSU.
Fort Hays State is looking to make a ninth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and the Tigers own the longest active streak for consecutive years in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (8).
The Tigers played tough competition outside of GAC/MIAA play, which is helping boost their strength of schedule formula for the Super Region Rankings. Along with its tie against the top team in the Super Region earlier this season, FHSU defeated Colorado Mesa, which ranks No. 5 in Super Region 4. FHSU fell at No. 8 ranked CSU-Pueblo of Super Region 4 to open the season. FHSU is 1-1-1 against teams referenced in any of the Super Region rankings.
Ten teams will make the super region field, however the four conference tournament champions within Super Region 3 will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament field.
