Tigers avenge loss at Harding

SEARCY, Ark. – The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team will come back from Arkansas with two wins after defeating Harding 2-0 on Saturday (Oct. 30). After a scoreless first half, the Tigers scored twice in the second half to secure the victory. The Tigers improve to 10-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the GAC and the Bisons fall to 3-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in conference play.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, combining for 14 shots and five saves. The first score for the Tigers came in the 54th minute as Ethan Doud struck the ball past the keeper on the right side of the box for his first goal of the season. The next score would come in the 74th minute when Taisei Arima knocked it in off of a cross from Michael Samuel in the right side of the box. The Tigers held on to the clean sheet thanks to the Tiger defense allowing only seven shots in the second half. Keeper Kieran Brown finished the match with five saves, including three after halftime.

The win helped the Tigers secure a spot in the 2021 GAC/MIAA Men’s Soccer Championships. Fort Hays State currently sits atop the league standings with two matches to play in the regular season. The Tigers will be back at home next weekend when they host Northeastern State on Thursday (Nov. 4) at 7 p.m. and Southern Nazarene on Saturday (Nov. 6). Kickoff on Senior Day is scheduled for 1 p.m.
