Fuller, Johnson earn MIAA weekly honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chance Fuller and John Johnson of Fort Hays State Football received MIAA Football Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts this past Saturday in a 21-17 win at Central Missouri. Fuller is the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Johnson is the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Fuller threw for 346 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 21-17 win at Central Missouri. Trailing for the first time with 3:04 to go in the game, Fuller helped march the Tigers 75 yards down the field to score the winning touchdown with 26 seconds remaining. He threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Wiltfong to cap the drive. On the drive, he connected with Josh Okechukwu four consecutive times for 56 yards to get the Tigers down to the UCM 7. Okechukwu finished with a season-high 148 receiving yards. Fuller threw for 69 yards on the game-winning drive.

Johnson recorded a team-high eight tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in the 21-17 win for Fort Hays State at Central Missouri. He recorded one of the two sacks by the Tiger defense, and had a key forced fumble at the goal line to keep UCM from scoring in the first half as FHSU held a 14-0 halftime lead.

Fuller and Johnson join James Letcher, Jr. of Washburn (Special Teams Athlete of the Week) as the weekly honorees from the MIAA.
