WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s golf team climbed three spots to finish in a tie for 11th out of 18 teams at the Midwest Classic this week (Oct. 18-19) at Mules National Golf Club. The Tigers improved by 14 shots on Tuesday, firing a round-two total of 320 to climb up the standings after an opening-round 334.
Kira Mestl paced the Tigers with a two-round total of 154 after she posted scores of 78 on day one and 76 on day two. The senior finished in a tie for ninth, her first-career top-10 finish. Morgan Brasser was five shots back with a total score of 159 after rounds of 81 and 78, placing 25th.
Kerrigan Rudolph came in 63rd with a total score of 168 (88-80), while Lexie Ridder came in 73rd at 173 for the week (87-86) Ashtyn Turrentine rounded out the lineup in 106th after rounds of 92 and 108.
Central Missouri ran away with the team title in their home event, beating second place Nebraska-Kearney by 20 strokes. UCM’s Rosie Klausner won the individual title with a two-round score of 5-over 145.
Fort Hays State will wrap up its fall slate next week when the Tigers travel south to compete in The Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State. Play at Meadowbrook Country Club is set to open on Monday before wrapping up on Tuesday (Oct. 25-26).
