Men’s soccer wins on late goal

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The FHSU Men’s Soccer team broke a scoreless tie with a late goal and knocked off Northeastern State 1-0 on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 7). The Tigers notched the only score of the match in the 88th minute and held off a late flurry of activity from NSU for the win. The Tigers improved to 6-3-1 (3-1 GAC) and the Riverhawks fell to 5-6 (3-2 GAC). After a scoreless first half, the Tigers came out determined to find the net. The Tigers benefitted from a ball misplayed by the RiverHawks goalkeeper and defenders that rebounded off the left post right to Ivan Villalba standing in front of an empty net. Villalba knocked the ball home for the winning goal with just over two minutes remaining. Tiger goalkeeper Kieran Brown only needed to make one save in the match as he and the Tigers picked up their second clean sheet of the season. The Tigers won the shot battle 15-11.

FHSU will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma for another crucial conference match against No. 20 ranked Southern Nazarene.
