SHAWNEE, Okla. – Fort Hays State Women’s Golf turned in a third-place performance at the Oklahoma Baptist Fall Invitational held at the Shawnee Country Club, a par-72 course. Morgan Brasser led the Tiger effort by tying for fifth individually at 13-over par overall (157).
After an opening round of 80, Brasser improved a spot in the overall standings by shooting just 5-over in the second round with a 77. She was just six shots off the individual medalist pace, which saw Worawalan Siwaiyapram of Arkansas-Monticello and Valentina Nunez Butzonitch of Oklahoma Baptist tie at 7-over par overall (151). Shauna Lee turned in her first collegiate Top 10 finish in ninth overall. She was 19-over par with rounds of 82 and 81.
Kerrigan Rudolph improved four spots in the individual standings on day two. She carded rounds of 93 and 82 to finish 17th overall. Lexie Ridder shot rounds of 95 and 91 to finish 26th individually. Ashtyn Turrentine was in the next position behind Ridder on the leaderboard in 27th with rounds of 109 and 98.
After shooting 350 as a team in the opening round, the Tigers took a big stride on day two improving by 19 strokes. All five golfers improved in the final round.
Arkansas-Monticello won the six-team tournament with a team total of 630. Oklahoma Baptist was three strokes back in second. The Tigers posted 681 to finish in third, clearing Southern Arkansas by 14 strokes for the top-three finish.
The FHSU women return to the links next week in Edmond, Oklahoma at the Grace Shin Invitational, held at the Golf Club of Edmond.
