Men’s soccer hangs on to drop No. 10 Colorado Mesa

By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The No. 25 ranked FHSU Men’s Soccer team upset No. 10 Colorado Mesa on Saturday (Sept. 18) by a final score of 2-1. All three goals in the contest were scored in the first 15 minutes. Colorado Mesa equalized the score once before FHSU took the lead for good just moments later. The Tigers got on the board first as Michael Samuel had a shot blocked but conveniently found Viktor Robertsson outside the top of the box who took advantage of wide open shot with the keeper out of place for his first goal of the season. Just a few minutes later, the Mavericks responded with a goal of their own as the shot whizzed by keeper Kieran Brown. On the following kickoff, the Tigers put together a quick offensive attack which led to Anders Sandsto taking a shot near the goal. It was saved by keeper Rhett Cook but found Samuel on the other side of the goal for his first of the season.

The Mavericks made an intense effort to score as they outshot the Tigers 24-10 in the match, but Brown, recording 10 saves, and the Tiger defense held strong the rest of the way.

The Tigers will open GAC play next week in Claremore, Okla. on Saturday (Sept. 25) against Rogers State with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
