Student Government President Christopher Roberts, Salina junior, was arrested, at 2:20 a.m. Friday, on suspicion of driving under the influence and transportation of an open container following a traffic stop in response to a traffic infraction. The Hays Police Department arrest log showed the arrest occurred on the 700 block of Ash and the arrest and location was confirmed by Lt. Ron Rounkles of the HPD.
This arrest marks the second for Roberts this year and third during his tenure on the FHSU SGA.

Roberts began serving on SGA as freshman as a senator for the College of Arts and Sciences and served last year as the Legislative Affairs Director. This year he served as president and was recently re-elected to that position for the 2014-2015 academic year.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, following a first DUI conviction, a person will receive 48 hours of mandatory imprisonment or 100 hours of community service and must complete a court ordered alcohol and drug safety action education program and/or treatment program. In addition, the person will be fined $500 to $1,000 plus court costs, probation and evaluation fees. Their driving privileges will be suspended for 30 days, then restricted for an additional 330 days and the person’s vehicle can be impounded for up to one year.
