Women’s soccer garners 12 MIAA academic honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team placed 12 of its student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday (May 6) by the league office. In addititon to those 12 honors, the Tigers also had four MIAA Academic Excellence Award honorees and two Scholar-Athlete Award recipients.

Tessa Irvine, Cailey Perkins, Maja Persa and Emily Reitz all earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. It was the third-such honor for Perkins and Persa, while both Irvine and Reitz earned the award for the second year in a row.

Macy Decker and Reilly Madden both received the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award due to earning All-MIAA honors on the pitch and maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA. It is the first such honor for both Tigers.

Other FHSU representatives on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll include Katie Evans, Meghan Groom, Amanda Rapaduski, Zariah Smith, Jordan Thompson and Deonna Wellbrock.

An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 4.00 or better at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

To qualify as a Scholar-Athlete an individual must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The student-athlete must also earn All-MIAA honors during the current season.

To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. Transfers and true freshman are recognized at the conclusion of the school year, after they meet the two terms of attendance requirement.
