KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State fell to Nebraska-Kearney in MIAA play on Saturday (Apr. 10). The Lopers took the meeting 7-0, moving to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the MIAA. FHSU is now 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA.
The Lopers picked up their first point by sweeping doubles matches. The No. 2 team of Fiorella Mendez and Grace Holgerson were able to take a pair of games off their opponents, while the No. 1 and No. 3 Tiger teams each won one game.
In singles action, Kylie Aufdengarten forced a third set against Pranathi Gannavaram at the No. 6 position after winning the second set 7-5. Gannavaram, however, prevailed in the final set 10-7. Stefany Stemmer played a tight pair of sets against Melisa Becerra at the No. 1 position, falling 6-4, 6-4. Aliyah Frederick won five games within her match at the No. 5 position against Claire Neil, falling 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers will host two home matches next week when Washburn and Northwest Missouri State come to Hays. FHSU faces Washburn on Friday at 3 pm, then Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at 1 pm.
