The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team downed Central Oklahoma with a 2-0 shutout victory Thursday evening (Apr. 1) in Hays. With the victory, the Tigers improve their spring record to 2-1-1.
Fort Hays State scored twice in the first half to ensure victory. Freshman Jersey Garoutte helped the Tigers get on the board with a goal in the 23rd minute. Garoutte was in a tough spot near the end line with defenders surrounding her. She made a couple quick moves and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper from a tough angle.
Macy Decker doubled the Tiger lead just with less than 10 minutes in the half. Amanda Rapaduski had the ball in the box and found a wide open Decker who netted her first goal of the spring to put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
The defense locked down and did their part to halt any chance of a UCO comeback the rest of the match. Goalkeepers Deonna Wellbrock and Isabel Robben combined to keep Central Oklahoma off the board for 90 minutes.
Fort Hays State will head north for a rematch with Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday (Apr. 3). The last time the Tigers and Lopers met this spring, FHSU exploded for four goals in a 4-0 victory. The rematch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 pm in Kearney, Neb. The match Saturday begins MIAA divisional play for the spring.
