KEARNEY, Neb. – The Fort Hays State volleyball team fell in three sets against No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday (March 18), losing 25-22, 25-14, 25-11. The Tigers are now 2-4 on the year and 0-4 against MIAA North Division opponents, while the Lopers improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in divisional action.
The Tigers fought tooth-and-nail with the Lopers in the opening set, leading by as many as four early on, 8-4. An 11-2 UNK run over the heart of the set was the difference in the frame. The teams traded punches for the rest of the set, but FHSU was never able to break through and regain the lead.
The Lopers took care of business a little quicker in the second and third sets, winning 25-14 and 25-11, respectively.
Mykah Eshbaugh was unofficially credited with seven kills and just one error on 16 swings, compiling a hitting percentage of .375. Emily Ellis added six kills and two blocks. As a team the Tigers hit .220 in the opening set before finishing the match with a .080 attack percentage overall. Elysia Glowacz was credited with 15 assists while Melissa Blockey tossed up 13.
The Tigers will return to the floor next Saturday (March 27) when they battle Newman and Missouri Southern in Topeka, Kan. The first serve of the day is set for 10 a.m.
