Men’s soccer posts second straight shutout

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Fort Hays State Men’s Soccer moved to 2-0 on the season with its second straight shutout to open the 2021 spring slate of exclusively GAC matches. The Tigers downed Ouachita Baptist 3-0 at Soldier Field, the home turf of Rogers State University, and have now outscored opponents 7-0 on the season.

Anotonio De La Torre opened the scoring for the Tigers about 20 minutes into the match. A few minutes later, Taisei Arima drew a foul in the box and received his second penalty kick of the season. He buried it to put the Tigers up 2-0, which is the score they led by at halftime.

Later in the second half, Kevin Black extended the lead with a header off of passes from Jonathan Gammelvind and Viktor Robertsson. The Tigers finished the game outshooting Ouachita Baptist 24-7.

Kieran Brown moved to 2-0 in goal on the season with another shutout victory. He made five saves. Matt Day took the loss between the pipes for Ouachita Baptist, though he also stopped five shots.

The Tigers hit the road again next weekend to Bethany, Oklahoma, where they will face Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, March 13 at 3:30 pm.
