KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jared Vitztum of Fort Hays State is the MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after helping Fort Hays State to a pair of wins in Hays last week. Vitztum averaged a double-double in points and rebounds for the week, while shooting a blistering 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the field.
Vitztum recorded his NCAA Division II-leading 11th double-double of the season on Thursday in an 84-67 win over Lincoln University. He scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists. He finished 9-of-14 from the field in that game with a season-high three 3-point field goals. On Saturday, he backed that up with a 23-point, 8-rebound performance in a 36-point (84-48) blowout win over Central Missouri. He was a perfect 9-of-9 from the field in that game, including three 3-point field goals once again, and played just 24 minutes as he rested for a good chunk of the second half with the big FHSU lead.
This is the second MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honor for Vitztum this season. He also earned the distinction back on December 14, 2020.
